Canada’s newly redesigned passport process has been in progress since 2013. The Canadian government says it is a standard regular process to avoid counterfeiting & to integrate modern security features.

Canada’s newly redesigned passport includes security features to protect people’s identities. In addition, Minister Fraser asserts that the document consists of polycarbonate data and passport holders’ confidential information that will now be laser engraved instead of being printed in ink.

All this is done to make the data page durable & resistant to counterfeiting or tampering. Moreover, there is a custom see-through window with an alternative passport holder image, a variable laser image, and a temperature-sensitive ink feature.

Concerning the design, Sean Fraser highlighted that the document would represent Canada’s natural heritage. In addition, he said that the design is the consequence of consultation with different stakeholders.

Minister Gould observed that during the summer, some Canadians might receive the older version of passports when the change occurs. However, older passports are still valid in this case.

The recent statistics from Passport Canada show that on May 5, over 209,548 candidates gave their passport applications. In response, 210,171 passports have been issued so far. Passport Canada also experienced processing delays, impacting over 155,000 federal workers.
