British Columbia & Manitoba have nominated applicants this week in the recent round of PNP draws.

Provinces can nominate applicants for PR because immigration is a shared responsibility between federal & provincial governments. IRCC allocates an annual number of nominations to each province/ area. With this, they are able to invite applicants who are well-suited for integration into the provincial economy & workforce.

For instance, on August 9, Alberta reported that it has already issued over 6,527 of 9,750 nominations which have been allocated for 2023.

Until this March, provinces obtained allocations only yearly. However, this will change in the future as IRCC introduced the first multi-year provincial immigration levels plan. This will allow the provinces/ area to know how many newcomers they can nominate & plan an adequate infrastructure, like housing, schools, & healthcare, to support newcomers/ immigrants.
