Saskatchewan will expand immigration eligibility under its PNP so workers can easily apply for permanent residence. As of this declaration, workers in intermediate & low-skilled professions with jobs within the province via the Existing Work Permit Stream of the SINP will meet the basic eligibility criteria for both streams & the SINP as a whole.

Saskatchewan will expand immigration eligibility under its PNP & this expansion of eligible professions for PR implies that permit holders from over 279 different professions are eligible to stay permanently in the province. This includes truck drivers, farm laborers, retail sales staff, nurse’s aides, etc. Earlier, only immigrants in high-skilled & designated trades were eligible to apply for PR via this stream.

Note: TEER, i.e., Training, Education, Experience, & Responsibility categories, are the Canadian government system of cataloging jobs in Canada depending on these four components of each profession. These levels range from 0 to 5.

In order to apply under the newly expanded stream, candidates must meet stream-specific & general SINP eligibility. Moreover, the applicants must have:

  • An eligible open work permit/ LMIA supported work permit, a francophone mobility work permit, or a CUAET visa.
  • A valid SINP job approval letter.
  • Six months of full-time work experience in the same job given in the job approval letter.
  • Have a CLB score of 4 if your job is in TEER 4 or 5 professions.
  • An eligible license in case your profession is regulated in Saskatchewan.

Who Is Not Eligible Under These Changes?

While Saskatchewan will expand immigration eligibility under its PNP, it is vital to note that the following applicants are still not eligible to immigrate to the province under this immigration stream:

  • Food & beverage servers
  • Truck drivers
  • Health professionals
  • Graduates presently working with a PGWP
  • Refugee claimants claiming refugee status in Canada

Saskatchewan Requires Immigrants

The Saskatchewan government has bargained with the federal government to increase their provincial allocation of immigration nominees for 2023, 2024, & 2025.

This comes in recognition of some of the largest job vacancies seen in any province in Canada. The province presently has around 16,000 job vacancies posted on multiple online job boards, with more than 112,000 job vacancies forecasted over the next five years.
