Canada opens a new PR pathway for families in Sudan. IRCC confirmed that starting February 27th, 2024, it would accept up to 3.250 single applicants or families applications. This is a new sponsorship pathway that will grant PR to successful applicants. 

IRCC has confirmed that it will waive the right of permanent resident fee & offer settlement services to individuals who successfully obtain PR via this pathway. 

Who Can Apply Under This Pathway? 

Canada opens a new PR pathway for families in Sudan & here’s how applicants can be eligible to apply under this pathway. Well, applicants: 

  • Have been living in Sudan on April 15th, 2023
  • Should not have another nation to return to other than Canada or Sudan
  • Must be the child, grandchild, parent, grandparent, or sibling of eligible anchor

Should provide a statutory declaration from their anchor stating that: 

  • They plan to support you & family members accompanying you for one year
  • They haven’t & won’t accept any money from you or your family members
  • Plan to live in the province/ territory other than Quebec
  • Not be admissible for reasons other than financial ones 

In addition to the above criteria, individuals might apply if: 

  • Their spouse is the child, grandchild, parent, grandparent, or sibling of an eligible anchor willing to support you
  • They meet all other eligibility criteria

Note: An anchor is an extended family member who agrees to support you & your family enduring the first year in Canada. They will provide financial aid & help you fulfill your basic needs like housing, food, clothing, etc. 

Who Can Be An Anchor? 

An anchor should: 

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Be a Canadian citizen/ permanent resident
  • Reside in Canada
  • Prove that they have enough income/ funds to meet the financial requirement  

However, an anchor cannot be: 

  • In the process of applying to renounce their Canadian citizenship or PR status
  • In jail
  • Subject to a removal order 
  • Bankrupt
  • In default of making payment on an immigration loan, performance bond, or any other amount they are legally bound to pay to the Canadian government
  • In default of a sponsorship undertaking, support payments, or repaying any debt owed to the Canadian government 
  • Obtaining social assistance for any reason other than a disability 
  • Convicted of a criminal offense listed in public policy 

How Can Eligible People Apply For This Pathway?

Applicants must apply via the PR portal. All integral documents & forms should be submitted. 

Moreover, if an application is found incomplete, it will be returned. In such cases, candidates will have the alternative to reapply if the pathway is still open.

According to data from Census 2021, over 17,485 people in Canada claimed Sudan as their country of ethnic or cultural origin. In addition, over 4,690 of these individuals are recent immigrants to Canada who report Sudan as their birth country.
