Canada is celebrating a welcoming week to regard the arrival of immigrants. During this week, Canadians are encouraged to help newcomers & assist them in settling effortlessly in their new home.

IRCC states that this welcoming week is a yearly event which offers an opportunity to identify & celebrate the arrival of immigrants. Canadians try to make them feel like they belong to their community, irrespective of their home nations.

Looking closely at the census data of 2021, there are over 8.3 million immigrants presently residing in Canada. In addition, as stated by Statistics Canada, this number will rise by 34% in 2041.

IRCC asserts that it is important for the immigrants to feel welcomed so that they can successfully integrate into the communities & contribute subsequently.

Arrival Of Immigrants: #ImmigrationMatters

Canada’s welcoming week comes under the #ImmigrationMatters campaign to raise awareness regarding the benefits of immigration. In addition, it motivates everyone to get involved & offer numerous suggestions on how Canadians can offer help.

In this context, IRCC states that one way of getting involved is to contact an organization which offers settlement services to immigrants.

From here, Canadians can help immigrants in navigating their everyday lives. This, in turn, will motivate Canadians & immigrants to attend cultural events, share meals, & much more. Thus, getting in touch with an immigrant can be as easy as engaging in a conversation to improve French/ English language skills.

The Feeling Of Belonging

A recent study by Statistics Canada demonstrates that immigrants have a better sense of belonging as compared to Canadians. This is specifically true for those who reside in Ontario, Nova Scotia, NB, PEI, etc.

A stronger sense of belonging showcases that immigrants will be more active in their communities, which will help them in making good connections. As a result, they will choose to stay within the country & contribute to its economy.

Statistics Canada study associates this feeling of belonging with immigrants’ feelings about Canada’s multicultural policies & a belief that the national symbols are vital parts of Canadian identity.

Canadian Immigration

Marc Miller stated how advantageous it can be for people to immigrate to Canada. He says Canada is a welcoming nation whose economic growth is driven by immigration. Immigration is a significant part of Canada’s economic plan as it addresses its aging population. Thus, by driving innovation, creating jobs, filling market gaps, etc., newcomers play a vital role in stabilizing Canada’s cultural & economic position.

Newcomers account for 100% of labor force growth & 75% of population growth. In addition, most of the arrival of immigrants in Canada takes place via economic immigration programs. This implies that immigrants arriving in Canada are skilled workers.

The country relies primarily on immigration to stabilize the economy & keep it growing. The study reveals that in 2022’s third quarter, over 24.4% of private sector businesses were owned by newcomers/ immigrants.

In 2022, the country admitted 437,000 newcomers. The Immigration Levels Plans aims to welcome 465,000 immigrants by the end of this year & 500,000 immigrants by the end of 2025.
