IRCC be focussing on Express Entry Candidates who have a robust French Language Proficiency or work experience in the fields mentioned below:

  • Healthcare
  • Science, technology, mathematics
  • Trades
  • Transport
  • Agriculture

Sean Fraser asserts that enabling IRCC to invite more skilled workers in specific professions will support Canada’s commitment to welcoming in-demand professionals into various communities nationwide.

In addition, draws for Express Entry candidates under new categories are expected to begin later this summer.

New Express Entry Categories: Why Are They There?

The new categories focus on filling vacant positions throughout the country. Immigration is a crucial component for reducing labor shortages. However, it also includes growing the prominence of the French language among minorities outside Quebec.

Fraser asserts that wherever he goes, he witnesses acute labor shortages. Thus, the Express Entry system changes will ensure they have skilled workers to grow and succeed in their business.

He further states that citizens can work towards growing the economy and help businesses with labor shortages by recruiting French-speaking applicants, thus ensuring the vitality of minorities.

Category-based draws will start this year, adhering to the changes made in June 2022. Thus, the changes allow the Ministry of Authority to select newcomers/ immigrants based on critical attributes supporting Canada’s economic priorities.

How Were The Categories Chosen?

The categories were selected following the legislative requirements that the minister participate in public consultation with territories & provinces, industrial members, unions, workers, employers, settlement provider organizations, and immigration researchers.

Each year, IRCC will report to parliament on the following:

  • The categories selected from the previous year
  • Why & how they were selected
  • The instructions to establish a category
  • The number of invitations issued for each & every category

What Is Express Entry?

Express Entry was established in 2015 to respond to Canada’s changing economic & labor market needs. It is an application management system that oversees three economic immigration programs, i.e., Federal Skilled Trades Program, Federal Skilled Workers Program, & Canadian Experience Class.

These Programs utilize CRS to assign scores to Express Entry candidates depending on human capital factors, like work experience, language ability, profession, educational qualification, etc. In addition, the applicants with the highest CRS score were most likely to obtain ITA for permanent residency.
