The Minister of Innovation, Science, & Industry, Francois – Phillipe Champagne, declared that the first STEM round for category-based selection would open in the week of July 5.

The draw will prioritize sending invitations to applicants with STEM expertise, including data scientists, programmers, software developers, statisticians, mathematicians, etc.

In addition, through this initiative of sending Express Entry invitations, the nation hopes to meet the growing demand for STEM talent, thus filling key positions that contribute to Canada’s technical advancement & economic growth.

This declaration is a milestone in Canada’s commitment to attracting the top global talent & solidifying Canada’s position as a leader in development, innovation, & research. Moreover, the declaration is also in line with the Canadian government’s efforts to retain & recruit top/ eligible candidates to address STEM workforce labor challenges.

In the previous month, the Immigration Minister of Canada, Sean Fraser, declared the new Express Entry category-based selection. These selections enable the government to meet acute labor shortages, thus supporting the nation’s economic goal. In addition, by addressing the labor shortages, Canada also aims to strengthen Francophone immigration by inviting applicants who have specific work experience in French language abilities to apply for PR.

Sean Fraser asserted that the ability of Canada to be at the cutting edge of Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics depends significantly on the nation’s ability to recruit talent globally. He further stated that these stem category-based selection draws will increase access to PR for skilled professionals with STEM Experience.

The Express Entry invitations were sent for category-based selection draws. These draws will continue throughout the year alongside general invitation rounds.
