Four Canadian provinces invite applicants in the latest PNP draws. All of Canada’s provinces & territories except Quebec & Nunavut have PNP. Through the PNP, provincial governments can select economic immigration applicants who are likely to economically establish themselves within the province & integrate into the labor force & economy.

Applicants in the Provincial Nominee Program are likely to be selected based on an in-demand attribute within the province. For instance, most provinces hold draws that select applicants in specific professions, like dedicated healthcare pathways for Express Entry applicants in Alberta, or they will be invited based on their language skills, like French-speaking skilled workers stream of OINP. In addition, most PNPs also have streams for international graduates in the province to encourage the retention of international students.

Once a province selects these applicants, they nominate them to IRCC for permanent residence status. A provincial nomination doesn’t offer PR to applicants. Still, it does strengthen the application, specifically for Express Entry applicants who obtain an extra 600 CRS points for a nomination, along with their original score.
