IRCC recently conducted an Express Entry draw, inviting Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residency. A total of 174 ITAs were issued in this round. To qualify, candidates needed a minimum CRS score of 816.

This latest draw highlights opportunities for PNP candidates aiming to immigrate to Canada through Express Entry.

Express Entry draws have now occurred for two consecutive weeks. Last week, 1,933 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) were issued across three categories: Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), and candidates with strong French-language skills.

According to the latest Immigration Levels Plan from IRCC, Canada aims to increase its Express Entry admissions next year, targeting 124,680 candidates. Of this total, over 82,000 will fall under the newly introduced “In-Canada Focus” category. This category will prioritize CEC candidates but may also include individuals from the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and PNP-aligned streams.

The remaining 41,700 admissions will go to the “Federal Economic Priorities” category, which focuses on candidates with experience in high-demand occupations that address Canada’s labor market needs.

Understanding Express Entry

Express Entry is Canada’s system for managing applications for three major economic immigration programs: the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

Candidates in these programs are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which assigns points based on factors such as age, job experience, language abilities, education, and work history.

Additional points can be earned for having a sibling in Canada, applying with a partner, or combining Canadian and international education and work experience.

Provincial nominations through enhanced Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) streams provide an additional 600 CRS points, greatly improving the chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

Candidates with the highest CRS scores are more likely to receive an ITA in upcoming Express Entry draws, as long as they meet the requirements of the specific draw.
