IRCC held the second Express Entry draw in Canada. The department issued 300 ITAs in a draw for French language proficiency.  Applicants need to obtain a minimum CRS score of 486 in order to be considered.

The second Express Entry draw in Canada was followed by the draw, which took place on October 24, wherein over 1,548 applicants with a CRS score of 776 were invited.

The minimum CRS score for the second Express Entry in Canada draw tends to be higher because applicants in the Express Entry pool who are nominated by the province obtain extra CRS points.

Express Entry Applicants No Longer Need Upfront Medical Examination

As of October 1, Express Entry applicants do not need to obtain an upfront IME, i.e., Immigrant Medical Examination, before submitting their PR application to IRCC.

An exam is a requirement; however, applicants might submit a blank document in the upload field of the Express Entry profile builder. IRCC will send further instructions regarding your medical exam later.

In addition, individuals who already completed an IME as a part of different IRCC applications or reside in Canada do not need to complete a second IME.

What Is Express Entry?

Being an application management system, IRCC oversees three economic immigration programs, i.e., FSTP, FSWP, & CEC.

Applicants in these programs are evaluated using the CRS. The system ranks applicants based on their human capital factors, like age, education, language ability, work experience, etc.

Every attribute is given a score & when combined, all scores are added up to a maximum number of 1200. However, applicants rarely score this high. The minimum CRS cut-off scores range between 350-550. Thus, applicants with the highest scores are the most likely to obtain UTAs to apply for IRCC for PR.

What Is Category-Based Selection?

IRCC introduced draw categories this year, wherein CRS isn’t the prominent deciding factor in issuing ITAs. A new law passed in June 2022 offers the immigration minister the authority to invite applicants who meet the nation’s economic needs or help promote the French language.

Accordingly, IRCC declared six new draw categories for Express Entry applicants who either had strong French abilities or relevant work experience in:

  • Healthcare
  • STEM professions
  • Trades
  • Transport
  • Agriculture/ Agri-Food

Until now, the nation has invited applicants via category-based selection draws since June, totaling around 10,000 ITAs. All applicants were already in the Express Entry pool.
