More jobs now qualify for Ontario’s PNP employer job offer stream. The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program’s Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills Stream now accepts more applicants as of July 4th, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Labor, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development. Additional eligibility requirements include

One of Ontario’s programs is the Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Occupations Stream (PNP). This stream is intended to fill critical job openings in the province, especially in the trades, manufacturing, construction, and agriculture sectors.

The job offer must be for a full-time position—defined as working at least 30 hours per week and at least 1,560 hours annually—and it must originate from an Ontario-based business in order to be eligible. Contract roles and other positions with a predetermined termination date are not eligible.

A minimum of nine months of full-time, paid work experience in an Ontario role with the same NOC code as the job offer is required of candidates. The three years before the applicant submits their application must have been spent gaining this experience.

Candidates must also receive a minimum of four Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) scores in speaking, writing, listening, and reading in either French or English. Additionally, they must hold a high school diploma from Canada or another nation that is comparable. Those lacking Canadian educational credentials must obtain an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).

Lastly, prior to submitting an application for nomination, individuals in regulated professions that have a job offer must get the required license from the relevant provincial regulatory body.

An overview of ONIP

One of the main tools in Ontario’s toolkit to draw in entrepreneurs, foreign students, and skilled laborers is the Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). The program runs multiple streams, each designed to satisfy Ontario’s unique labor market requirements. The objective of the OINP is to mitigate skills shortages, stimulate economic growth, and bolster the province’s competitiveness in the global arena by providing a route to permanent residency.

One of these streams is the Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Occupations Stream, which is intended to fill immediate job openings in industries including manufacturing, trades, construction, and agriculture. Employers in Ontario can find qualified candidates more easily for positions that are hard to fill locally.

Every Canadian province and territory has a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), with the exception of Quebec and Nunavut. Through these initiatives, provincial governments exercise authority to select economic immigrants who best suit their region’s needs and recommend them to IRCC for permanent residence.

Under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), 16,506 nominations were submitted by Ontario in 2023. Ontario granted 463 nominations to applicants under the Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Occupations Stream.

The federal government has raised Ontario’s nomination allotment to 21,500 for 2024, becoming it the most of all PNPs in Canada. By the end of the year, Canada intends to welcome 110,000 newcomers nationwide through the PNP. By strengthening their petitions for permanent residence, these nominations demonstrate Canada’s support for economic immigration and its ability to meet local labor market demands.
