On October 10, Marc Miller declared that Canada would welcome over 11,000 Colombians, Haitians, & Venezuelans via a new PR pathway. 

Beginning this fall, Columbian, Haitian, & Venezuelan foreign nationals in Central/ South America or the Caribbean with extended family connections in Canada will be eligible to apply for the new PR pathway. 

In addition, to qualify, the principal applicant should be a child, grandchild, parent, spouse, grandparent, or sibling of a permanent resident or Canadian citizen. 

Successful candidates will be offered pre-arrival services, including an employment skills assessment & a referral to a settlement provider organization in their intended community. 

IRCC has stated that more detailed information will be available upon the launch of the new PR pathway. 

Canada’s Commitments To Support Migrants In America 

IRCC declared they would welcome over 15,000 migrants via the new PR pathway from the Western Hemisphere. The main aim of this initiative is to provide a path to economic opportunities & help address forced displacement as an option to irregular migration. 

Through this initiative, IRCC will provide regular migration pathways to individuals in America with PR humanitarian & economic pathways as well as temporary work programs. 

The declaration on October 10 came as a part of the commitment to welcome over 15,000 migrants.   

According to the statement given by Marc Miller, Canada is welcoming an additional 4,000 temporary foreign workers, many of whom have already arrived in Canada. Moreover, IRCC is connecting with non-governmental organizations to support the new Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot that helps skilled refugees & other displaced people immigrate to Canada. 

IRCC’s commitment to supporting migrants in America includes investment in projects across Latin America & the Caribbean. Marc Miller stated that they are increasing the assistance of capacity-building efforts in the region by investing over $75 million over six years for projects across Latin America & the Caribbean. Moreover, he said that these projects focus on strengthening asylum capacity & help migrants and refugees integrate into local communities & labor markets. Lastly, he said that this support will help nations improve the quality of life of refugees & migrants.
