Canada has a stable and strong economy; after the pandemic, the country has witnessed a robust rebound in numerous sectors. As a result, there are many rapidly growing Industries for newcomers in Canada.

One of the critical factors in the country’s continued economic growth is the high immigration targets. The immigration level plans for 2023-25 showcase that Canada will admit over 500,000 immigrants by the end of 2025.

Out of the entire Canadian population of 39,000,000, over 25% of people are immigrants. Newcomers arrive in the country to fill up gaps in the national Labor force caused by many retirements/ lack of qualified applicants. Below are the rapidly growing industries for newcomers in Canada. Take a look!

Healthcare

Canadians are living longer and require more medical care for an extended period as compared to younger generations. This creased demand has led the country to attract healthcare workers from other countries.

Presently, over 35% of Canada’s physicians, 23% of nurses, and 39% of dentists are immigrants.

If we look closely at the recent data from Statistics Canada, we will see that as of February 2023, there were over 1,43,800 vacancies in the healthcare sector. Additionally, the nursing sector was hard hit during COVID, which resulted in nurses requiring extended leaves or quitting the profession.

IRCC has been taking numerous steps to make it easier for healthcare professionals to become permanent inhabitants.

How to immigrate as a healthcare worker?

Many healthcare professionals arrive in the country via Express Entry programs. These programs target skilled applicants under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trade Program.

In addition, Healthcare is a provincial responsibility, and many provinces have streams for healthcare professionals under PNP. For instance, Alberta recently created a dedicated healthcare pathway under Alberta Express Entry Stream.

Moreover, other provinces regularly hold PNP draws targeting applicants in healthcare professions. Interestingly, British Columbia does these kinds of draws every week.

Furthermore, there are also two pilot programs for caregivers for seniors & children. Earlier in 2023, the Canadian government declared that the work experience in the country for a caregiver to qualify as a permanent inhabitant was reduced from 24 to 12 months.

Agriculture

Another one of the rapidly growing industries for newcomers in Canada is agriculture. The agriculture sector employs over 243,000 Canadians. In addition, the country has job vacancies of almost 14,000.

A recent report given by the Bank of Canada shows that by the year 2033, over 40% of Canadian farm operators will retire. In addition, the report also stated that to offset a short-term skills crisis, the country must admit over 30,000 permanent immigrants over the next decade to establish their greenhouses/ farms.

How To Immigrate To Canada With An Agricultural Occupation

In order to fill vacancies, IRCC declared that it would be extending the Agri-Food Pilot Program. The occupations are as follows:

  • General Farmworkers
  • Harvesting Laborers
  • Industrial butchers
  • Retail butchers
  • Food Processing laborers
  • Farm supervisors
  • Specialized livestock workers

Just like healthcare professionals, there are also dedicated streams under PNP for agriculture workers.

Tech

The final one of the most rapidly growing industries for newcomers in Canada is the tech industry.

One of the prominent components of the federal budget was investing over $20 billion to support clean electricity and clean infrastructure projects. However, this investment will increase demand in the tech sector.

It is vital to note that many tech sector careers do not need a university degree. In addition, the average worker compensation in this sector in the year 2021 was $90,252.

The growth of AI also plays a crucial role in the high demand for tech workers. For example, Invest in Canada, a government website designed to attract people in the tech industry, reports that the country has 1,032 AI & machine learning industries. In addition, the global AI index shows that Canada ranks 4th for its global competitiveness in AI implementation, investment, & innovation.

How To Immigrate To Canada With Tech Profession

IRCC offers various programs, like the Global Talent Stream, to bring in more tech workers. The program is a part of the Temporary Foreign Workers Program & is specifically designed to encourage the growth of Canada’s tech industry.

In addition, the program aims to achieve a processing standard of two weeks once the employee submits the final application.

Furthermore, there are also targeted draws through PNP. Some instances of provincial tech streams include BC Tech Stream, OINP Tech Draw, Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway, etc.
