Three Canadian provinces issue invitations in the first PNP draws. Through PNP, provincial governments can review & select economic applicants who they feel are best suited to the local labor workforce as well as the economy. This implies that economically establishing themselves within the province will be easier for them. This often leads to a higher retention rate of newcomers within a province.

As three Canadian provinces issue invitations in the first Provincial Nominee Program draws, some streams target applicants with specific professions or attributes. For instance, Ontario recently expanded the eligibility criteria under the International Graduate stream to include applicants who complete a one-year program at a designated learning institution in the province.

In addition, the nation’s Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026 demonstrates that the nation plans to admit over 110,000 new permanent residents through the PNP in 2024. This is because immigration is a shared responsibility between provincial & federal governments. IRCC allocates a number of nominations to provinces every year depending on factors like existing population, infrastructure, labor force requirements, & settlement services.

All territories as well as provinces in Canada have PNP streams & programs, except for Quebec & Nunavut. Quebec has a separate agreement with the federal government.
