On Saturday, the Canadian government declared that it would introduce a new pathway this October to enable Ukrainians in Canada to apply for PR.

Effective from October 23, 2023, this new pathway will be available to Ukrainians in Canada with a TRV & who have at least one family member living in Canada. IRCC says that more details will be available, which will result in the launching of the program in October.

In addition, IRCC states that eligible applicants include Ukrainian spouses, parents, common-law partners, grandparents, children, & grandchildren of a permanent inhabitant or a Canadian citizen.

Ukrainians who have CUAET, i.e., Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel visa, will have to travel to Canada under temporary social measures offered by the government of Canada.

Moreover, Canada stopped accepting new applications for the CUAET on July 15, but Ukrainians, as well as their family members, can still apply for TRV to arrive in Canada.

Once the Ukrainians, as well as their families, arrive in the nation on TRV, they will be able to extend their stays for up to three years via study permits & open work permits, which IRCC will prioritize.

In addition, they will have access to settlement services, including employment support, language training, etc.

Since its launch in March 2022, the CUAET has enabled over 166,000 Ukrainians to arrive in the country.
